They’re bracing for a “summer surge” at DMV offices across California. It seems that people are waiting until the last minute to apply for their Real ID drivers licenses.
Normally the DMV processes about 400,000 applications a month. During the summer months they expect that number to jump to 600,000. They’ll be adding more personnel along with longer summer hours and updated technology to head off a potential log jam.
Everyone in the state will need a Real ID license by 2020.
