A fire broke out at the Samsung SDI Co. Ltd. facility that produces rechargeable batteries as well as houses faulty cell phone batteries like those from the Galaxy Note 7 that was the subject of a global recall in 2016.
According to Reuters, the fire broke out on Wednesday and was extinguished causing no casualties. A Samsung spokesman said that the fire did not impact the plant's operation.
The local fire department confirmed that the fire was caused by batteries being housed inside:
"material that caught fire was lithium batteries inside the production workshops and some half-finished products"
Samsung SDI is the company set to provide batteries for Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S8 line of phones, due to release during Q1.
