Did you know that "Emma" is not actually Emma Stone's real first name?

The famed actress sat down with The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday (April 24) to discuss her "boundary-pushing" comedy series "The Curse" (which made its on-air debut in 2023) with co-star Nathan Fielder, and got candid about her name. The Oscar-winning standout revealed that her name isn't Emma... it's Emily, and it always has been.

Stone mentioned that most of her co-workers refer to her as Emily once they get to know her, but she'd never correct a fan even though she prefers to be called by her real name.

"No. That would be so nice. I would like to be Emily."

So how exactly did "Emma Stone" come to be?

The "Poor Things" icon shared that when she rose to stardom, there was already an actress by the name of Emily Stone who was a member of SAG-AFTRA (per People). And thus, the stage name Emma Stone was born with a little inspiration from Baby Spice (A.K.A Emma Bunton), Stone's favorite Spice Girl. The name change didn't start to bother stone until a couple of years ago.

"Then I freaked out a couple of years ago. For some reason, I was like, 'I can’t do it anymore. Just call me Emily.' Nathan calls me Em, which is easier," she explained, referring to her co-star. A second season of the beloved series has yet to be announced as Emily (yes, Emily) Stone stans patiently await the actress's next masterpiece.
