Luke Perry’s Kids Honor Him On What Would've Been His 53rd Birthday

Comic-Con International 2018 - "Riverdale" Press Line

Luke Perry will never be forgotten.

Perry’s children took to social media on Friday (October 11) to pay their late father heartfelt tributes on what would have been his 53rd birthday. "Happy birthday, fashion icon 💁🏼‍♀️," the Riverdale star’s 19-year-old daughter Sophie captioned a touching throwback photo of the pair hugging each other. "I can hear you doing your best Tim Gunn impersonation now 💛 love you the most." Perry’s 22-year-old son Jack also remembered his dad with a black-and-white photo collage of his face, writing, "Happy birthday, old man. I’ll see you somewhere. ♥️."

As fans know, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum passed away in March after suffering a massive stroke at aged 52. Earlier this week, Perry’s untimely death was addressed on the CW teen series during Wednesday’s (October 9) Season 4 premiere.

The tribute episode saw Perry’s on-screen character, Fred Andrews, receive an emotional sendoff and a memorial in his honor. Viewers learn of Fred’s passing within the first few minutes of this week’s episode as his son, Archie, receives an unfortunate phone call about his dad’s tragic death. As it was revealed — spoiler alert! — Fred was struck and killed by a speeding vehicle en route to Riverdale after assisting a stranded woman (portrayed by Perry’s former costar Shannen Doherty) with her stalled vehicle.

“Very early on, we landed on the idea that Fred should have a heroic death, and that that would be impactful for Archie. And it felt like that's a way that Fred could have gone," showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told E! News of the tribute. "After that we really said that this episode really isn't going to launch any huge stories for the season; it was really going to be kind of focused on that, and the kind of emotional effects of that passing for everyone.”
