Is this a bucket list item for you? If so, it's happening again next month!
However, the conditions have to be just right, and it only takes places during a small window of time each year.
- The sun has to align in just the right way
- The sky needs to be clear
- And there needs to be just enough snow melt for the waterfall to flow
It only lasts about 5-10 minutes as the sun sets, and it requires a mile hike...but it would be SO worth it if you're up for it!
-- The Firefall only occurs at sunset in mid- to late-February. During that time, the setting sun hitsYosemiteValley at just the right angle to illuminate the upper reaches of Horsetail Fall. Feb 17-19 is generally considered the âpeak,â but the Firefall can light up nicely 6-7 days before or 3-4 days after the peak.--
