Sacramento Zoo the Latest To Layoff/Furlough Employees Due to Coronavirus

Many businesses and non-profits have been forced to make tough financial decisions due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The latest is the Sacramento Zoo, which closed on March 13th.

With revenue of $1 million a month that has disappeared, the non profit has laid off 52 people, with 17 furloughed. 28 employees had their hours reduced.

Officials also say the food and beverage company that works in the zoo is also laying off 53 people.

There are some animal care and veterinary staff that are still working.

It costs $250,000 a month to feed the 500 animals that they care for.
