Lady Gaga Gives Up Instagram Account To Amplify Voices Of Black Community

Lady Gaga is doing something awesome to amplify the voices of the black community.

Starting today (June 5), the “Born This Way” singer pledged to give Black Lives Matter organizations access to her personal Instagram account to help empower “important voices” within the community.

“Starting tomorrow, I’m giving over my Instagram account to each of the organizations I’ve recently donated to, in an effort to amplify their important voices,” she wrote with a picture of her peace symbol tattoo below her wrist. “And after I vow to regularly, in perpetuity, across all of my social media platforms, post stories, content, and otherwise lift up the voices of the countless inspiring members and groups within the Black community.”

Gaga boasts more than 42.1 million followers on the platform. Her announcement post alone garnered over 1.1 million likes in less than 24 hours.

The “Rain On Me” superstar isn’t the only celebrity collaborating with causes for the black community. Selena Gomez, who has over 178 million IG followers, vowed to give up her IG handle as well.

"I have been struggling to know the right things to say to get the word out about this important moment in history. After thinking about how best to use my social media, I decided that we all need to hear more from Black voices,” she wrote. “Over the next few days I will be highlighting influential leaders and giving them a chance to take over my Instagram so that they can speak directly to all of us. We all have an obligation to do better and we can start by listening with an open heart and mind."

Like Gomez, Gaga has been outspoken and incredibly supportive of the members of the black community leading protests demanding justice in the wake of George Floyd’s tragic arrest in late-May. Since then, she’s pledged funds to several Black Lives Matter organizations and has been a driving force in encouraging change.
