Sam Smith Releases Somber Christmas Song 'The Lighthouse Keeper'

Sam Smith has released a beautiful Christmas ballad.

The singer-songwriter delivered a brand-new song just in time for the holidays. On their latest record, titled “The Lighthouse Keeper,” Smith sings of longing for the safe return of their sweetheart who is still out at sea.

"When you set sail on your journey/ And happiness is far away/ Love will guide you 'til the mornin’/ Lead your heart down to the bay,” the 28-year-old croons somberly over the warm, choral Labrinth-produced composition. “Don't resist the rain and storm/ I'll never leave you lost at sea/ I will be your lighthouse keeper/ Bring you safely homе to me/ I will be your lighthouse keepеr/ Bring you safely home.”

In the closing verse of the holiday ballad, Smith makes the cheerful plea, “Hope you’ll be home for Christmas time.”

Speaking about “The Lighthouse Keeper” in a statement, Smith said: “If any year could make me look forward to the sounds of Christmas, it would be 2020 as more than ever before we are yearning to be around our friends and family once again. Christmas symbolizes that for me and earlier this year I was inspired to write a Christmas love song. Labrinth and I poured our hearts into this one and it has honestly been pure joy to create and make.”

The English pop star’s new Christmas tune is the latest offering to arrive since they put out their latest LP, Love Goes, on October 30. The record consisted of several tracks including “My Oasis,” “Diamonds” and “Kids Again” as well as “Dancing with a Stranger” with Normani and “Promises” with Calvin Harris.
