Sacramento Mother Killed After Helping Pedestrian

Community members are morning the loss of a Sacramento mother of four after she sacrificed herself to help a pedestrian.

40-year-old Amalya Sukiasyan was hit and killed by a driver last Friday, April 16, after she stopped to help a pedestrian who had been struck by a car just moments earlier near Rancho Cordova, reports CBS13.

“She would put everything that has to do with her aside and help everybody that she can get to,” family friend Lena Kirakosyan told CBS13.

She said Sukiasyan and another Good Samaritan were making sure the person who had just been hit was safe until an ambulance came. Sukiasyan had pulled over on the side of the road and didn't have time to react to an oncoming car.

"A car came speeding and crashed into her. It was on the spot, no chance," said Kirakosyan.

The other person helping was also hit but is okay and the pedestrian survived too.

According to CBS13, Sukiasyan arrived in the U.S. from Armenia with her family a decade ago. She is survived by her husband and four children.

"We don't have the words to explain how life is going to move on without her for her family," said Kirakosyan.

The driver who hit Sukiasyan did not flee the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The Sukiasyan family has started a GoFundMe campaign to help with funeral expenses.
