New Socially Inclusive Park & Playground Coming To Sacramento

An all-inclusive play park is in the works in Sacramento, reports ABC10.

A plot of land at the corner of Bell Street and Irma Street in Arden-Arcade is set to become emPOWERment Park, a socially inclusive park and playground where kids of all abilities can play side-by-side.

According to the Sacramento Parks Foundation, the park will have the following amenities:

  • POWER themed accessible play equipment for kids 2-5 years old
  • A separate play area for 5-12-year-olds
  • Picnic and BBQ areas in the shade
  • A shaded picnic structure with solar panels
  • Community garden beds and a tool storage shed
  • Public art display
  • Water play area
  • A "Basketball Bankshot" court
  • Restrooms, landscaping, safety lighting, and fencing

"People in our community, in the Arden-Arcade community, shouldn’t have to drive to Roseville or the outlying areas to gain access to an accessible play park," executive director of the Sacramento Parks Foundation, Mike Grace, told ABC10.

Grace said the park is fully funded and groundbreaking is scheduled for fall of 2021 and the grand opening of the park is expected in 2022. However, the foundation is doing outreach for more funds to ensure they can bring the full vision of the park to life.

"What we want is we want everyone to feel normal together, playing regardless of abilities,” Grace said. “That’s what this whole park is designed to do.”
