Britney Spears and her longtime partner Sam Asghari announced their engagement on Sunday (September 12). Spears posted a photo to Instagram showing off her new ring, which was designed by Roman Malayev from Forever Diamonds NY. Asghari had the ring engraved with the word "Lioness," his nickname for Spears, on the inside of the band.
Now, Spears has taken to social media to joke that the proposal was "way overdue." Sharing a photo of Asghari from his recent Men's Health interview and photoshoot, the singer gushed over her fiancé and recent proposal.
"Words can't even say how shocked I am," Spears said in the Instagram caption. "Geez although the a****** was way overdue!!!! It was definitely worth the wait .... yes that world ... that beautiful f****** man in that picture is MINE!!! I'm so blessed it's insane."
Asghari also commented on the post that his proposal was "wayyyyyyy overdueee." Spears and Asghari first met in 2016 on the shoot for her "Slumber Party" music video. Spears' 13-year conservatorship reportedly prohibited the pop titan from getting married without the permission of her father, Jamie Spears. He recently filed a petition to end Spears' conservatorship, with Asghari proposing shortly afterward.
Fans had been speculating for a while on when Asghari would pop the question, with the fitness instructor-turned-actor sarcastically telling paparazzi who asked, "People don't know but we've been married for about the last five years. We secretly got married in Hawaii. That's one of the stories I don't know but I've seen in newspapers. And we have twins!"
