The California recall election has come to an end with voters overwhelmingly deciding to keep Gavin Newsom as the state's Governor.

So how much did the recall election cost California?

According to SFGate, the election is expected to cost the state and its taxpayers over $300 million.

In July, the California Secretary of state's final estimate was $276 million with California counties spending $243.6 million. A month prior, the initial estimated priced the recall election to be around $60 million cheaper.

"The budget committee and the state Assembly acknowledges that it can go higher," California Secretary of State Shirley Weber said in an interview with ABC News. "We could see $300 million or more spent on this election."
