Fun Things To Do In Sacramento During Summer

Whether you're native to Sacramento or just in town for a quick trip, it's always fun to explore the city when you have some free time.

Here are 25 things to do in Sactown during summer:

1. Sacramento loves live outdoor music in in the warm months. Concerts in the Park Downtown is one of the more popular options with summer 2018 acts including Franz Ferdinand and Dance Gavin Dance, but there are also weekly shows in East Sacramento, Elk Grove and Natomas.

2. Take yourself out to a ballgame at Raley Field! The River Cats' summer schedule is up, and as always, they have awesome promotions and themed nights planned like Thirsty Thursdays where select 12 oz beers are just $2.

3. Check out the 2018 California State Fair, happening at Cal Expo July 13-29. This year's concert line-up features Trace Adkins and Kool & the Gang and activities include farm tours, wine tasting, rides and more.

4. Soak up the sun kayaking and stand up paddleboarding around Lake Natoma. Adventure Sports Rentals has fair prices for its rentals.

5. Roll out a mat and get loose at one of Yoga Moves Us' many free classes that happen every week. Yoga In The Park is their spring/summer series which has sessions in Sacramento, Roseville, Folsom and Davis. See their schedule to find a class near you!

6. Book a Brew Bike and roll through Downtown sampling some of the best beers on the grid. 

7. The West Wind Drive-In movie theater off of Bradshaw is one of just over 300 drive-in theaters still operating in the United States. Catch a double-feature for under $8 a ticket!

8. Get to know your local fish at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery. Go on a tour and meet the chinook salmon and steelhead trout that eventually make their way into the American River.

9. Enjoy the finest art, music, food and drink that Sacramento has to offer every month at Second Saturday. Festivities take place on the second Saturday of every month near J and 20th from 5 to 11 p.m.

10. Learn the history of California's State Capitol on one of the daily guided tours offered of the building. 

11.  Go to Golfland Sunsplash in Roseville. With water slides, mini golf, arcade games and more, Golfland is the place to go for a family day of fun in the sun.

12. Take a hike - seriously! The foothills surrounding Sacramento have so many beautiful trails.

13. See local and touring comedians perform live at Laughs Unlimited, Punchline or Tommy T's. 

14. Reserve a bay and swing for the fences at TopGolf in Roseville. The three-story building offers the perfect indoor/outdoor setting for summer with multiple bars and a long and diverse food menu.

15. The Crocker Art Museum has a lot more to offer than just awesome exhibits. Art classes for toddlers and kids, sip and paint classes for adults, concerts, meditations and more are on the museum's summer schedule. 

16. Sip on something at one of Old Sugar Mill's 13 wineries, all conveniently located in one rustic and unique building. 

17. See the city from a new perspective on the Old Sacramento Underground tour. In the late 1800s, the streets flooded and Sacramento had to literally build itself up to make sure it wouldn't go underwater again. Explore the underground spaces that still exist today.   

18. Soar high while indoor skydiving at iFly Sacramento

19. Kick off summer by seeing a Replublic FC match at Papa Murphy's Park in Cal Expo. They have games on the books through October,

21. Spend some time volunteering at a local business or non-profit. Find opportunities using HandsOn Sacramento

22. Test your limits by white water rafting on the American River. There are several businesses to choose from when booking your adventure.

23. Catch a concert or event at the Golden 1 Center.  The state-of-the-art green arena is an experience in itself. 

24. Visit the Sacramento Zoo for free on the first Wednesday of every month. Up to four kids ages 2-11 receive complimentary tickets with the purchase of one adult ticket.

25. Eat fresh, local fare at a Farm to Fork restaurant in the Farm to Fork Capital! Then end summer by going to Farm-to-Fork Fest on September 29.
