Nor Cal Congressman Garamendi Calls For More Funding In Central America

Northern California Representative John Garamendi is calling for more funding in Central America to solve the border crisis. Garamendi, who serves California's 3rd congressional district covering the Sacramento region and areas to the west and north, is calling for more funding in Central America to solve the border crisis. says the Trump Administration needs to reverse its stance and reinstate funding in the countries from which migrants are fleeing.

"The president I think has a made a mistake by withholding funding," said Garamendi. "Those programs can overtime diminish the reason why people leave those countries."

Garamendi claimed that cutting the funding to aid efforts in Central America will only fuel the problem. He is proposing investments in more facilities in certain countries.

Immigration officials have said detention centers at the border are completely maxed out, and Garamendi insisted Democrats have been fighting to secure the border.

"Last year the Democrats proposed major amount of money for border fencing, increasing the various ports of entry, providing new judges. Ultimately the president rejected that and we wound with the shutdown." Congressman Garamendi seemingly referring to the failed 2018 deal between President Trump and then Senate Minority Leader to fund the border wall project in exchange for permanent protections for the approximately 700,000 undocumented immigrants in the United States who had been covered by the Obama-erea Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Garamendi said the solutions for immigration problems are simple.

"What we need to do is work together, and we can. Everybody knows we need more judges, so these case don't linger for years and years. We do know that we need appropriate facilities to handle the people."
