41 California counties now in purple tier. Curfew being considered

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Monday that several additional California counties are moving to the state's purple tier, with a COVID-19 surge, and that a curfew is being considered.

"California is pulling an emergency brake," Newsom said, as over 94% of the state's population, 41 counties will be in the purple tier, starting Tuesday.

The California Department of Public Health is reporting over one-million confirmed coronavirus cases right now. There were 9,875 new cases as of Friday.

Officials are trying to reduce the test result wait time to stop the spread. They say the average wait time was about one day in the first week of November. However, 89-percent of people received them within two days. More than 18-thousand people have died since the start of the pandemic.
