Newsom's New Proposal Allows Four Year Old's Early Kindergarten Access

A new proposal from Governor Gavin Newsom’s administration would allow all four-years-old's more access to early education before they're eligible for kindergarten.

It's a full year more than what's currently available and California Early Edge Executive Director Patricia Lozano is excited at the prospect. California created its transitional or pre-kindergarten program in 2010, but only one in four four-year-old's qualify right now. If this plan is fully implemented, an additional 266,000 of them could enroll.

According to Newsom's advisors, at full implementation, the cost of the program would amount to $2.7 billion a year.
